About A.E. Burgess & Sons Ltd.

Founded in 1850 by Alfred and Ernest Burgess, A.E.Burgess & Sons Ltd is still owned and run by the Burgess family to this day. As a leading waste management and scrap metal merchant in Leicester, we operate a fleet of 51 vehicles from our 12 acre site and recycle over 240,000 tonnes of waste every year.

We provide a professional approach for both the public and trade sector whilst maintaining a friendly and personal service.

At the heart of our operation is a state-of-the-art, materials recycling facility (MRF) with the capacity to service the whole of Leicestershire. Over the years, our continuing development has allowed us to build a solid reputation with key customers including builders, manufacturers and Local Authorities. We have gained an unparalleled understanding of their needs, enabling us to consistently meet and exceed them.

Our MRF is equipped with some of the most advanced waste processing equipment available, allowing us to segregate mixed-active and non-active waste. We also have areas dedicated to the processing of pre-segregated materials such as brick rubble, soil, metal, cardboard, paper and polythene.

We provide the full range of recycling and waste services including advanced materials recycling, glass and plastics reprocessing, aggregate reprocessing and ferrous and non ferrous metals recycling, efficient transport, collection, and safe and efficient waste sorting process before landfill disposal.

No matter the size of your business or organisation, A.E. Burgess are sure to have a collection and recycling solution that will slot comfortably into your operation, realising potential cost savings and greater environmental credentials.

Our Vision:

As a society, we are consuming natural resources at an unsustainable rate. If every country consumed natural resources at the rate the UK does, we would need three planets to live on. The most crucial threat is from dangerous climate change.

At A.E. Burgess we understand that reducing waste is an important contributor to this goal. Each year in the UK, we generate about 100 million tonnes of waste from households, commerce and industry. Most of this ends up in landfill where the organic part rots producing methane (a potent greenhouse gas) while valuable energy is used in extracting and processing new raw materials.

As a society, there is a need to optimise resources including raw materials and energy. This is why here at A.E. Burgess & Sons we aim to generate the maximum value from our customers’ waste through recycling, helping to reduce the impact of their waste on the environment.

Our aim is to provide our customers with the most professional and reliable service in the industry,  by constantly keeping abreast of technology innovations and waste management techniques

By treating waste as a valuable resource, from which by-products can be recovered as secondary materials or energy, A.E. Burgess hopes to reach a point where the majority of waste materials produced are re-used, recycled or recovered for their energy content.

In order to maximise the value of waste as a resource, we have re-engineered our waste collection, recycling and sorting services as a manufacturing process linked to the value chain of waste. This approach recognises that all waste is a raw material for the products or energy we produce and can be used as part of the manufacture of new products, helping to link the waste industry with the economic activities of the UK to create a circular economy. Therefore reducing the volume of waste material, A.E. Burgess sends to landfill.
